A little about me & this site

I’m Liesel, from Oregon. I’m a bit taken with food. It preys on my mind almost from the moment I wake-up until I close the cookbook and lay it on the nightstand to snatch my forty winks. I’m even more taken with my insanely fantastic family and I find fussing over them to be one of my greatest sources of happiness. Even more, I consider my role as the family chef and chief nester to be of colossal importance.

Because I love to write, share and converse with others who like to do the same, I created Family Relish. It’s the chronicle of the happenings, lessons, hints, flubs, miracles, scalds, roosting, digging, killing, eating, loving, and relishing that I experience as a result of my passion for food and family. I’m no expert. I’m learning and loving every minute of it.

Here are a few of the basic food principals I try to live by:

  • Prepare real food that grows out of the ground or is fed from the ground and will spoil if I don’t use it in time.
  • Set an atmosphere that makes my family want to melt into their chair and share their little selves with me.
  • Spoil my kids, husband and guests with fabulous food set gorgeously on the plate that whispers to them, “this woman is nuts about me” with every bite.
  • Grow as much as I can right in my own yard – - it’s new endeavor and why not? The grass doesn’t do anything special for me and requires that my husband spend 2 hours of every weekend kicking-up shreds with the obnoxious mower and gas fumes.
  • Preserve as much of the harvest as I possibly can (get it…can).
  • Support my community, local growers and farmers, eateries that support what I support, and my lovely planet.
